Electrochemical Aspects of Ionic Liquids

Electrochemical Aspects of Ionic Liquids

$175

The second edition is based on the original book, which has been revised, updated and expanded in order to cover the latest information on this rapidly growing field. The book begins with a description of general and electrochemical properties of ionic liquids and continues with a discussion of applications in biochemistry, ionic devices, functional design and polymeric ionic liquids. The new edition includes new chapters on Li ion Batteries and Actuators, as well as a revision of existing chapters to include a discussion on purification and the effects of impurities, adsorption of ionic liquids on interfaces and on the electrochemical double layer, among other topics.

Due to their unique properties, ionic liquids are being developed and exploited for applications in numerous, and in some cases surprising, areas of science and technology. Knowledge of physicochemical properties is essential for academic research and industrial applications of ILs. This book consolidates the myriad data points on ion liquids in the published literature. The work provides tremendous value to researchers, regulators, and policymakers in need of information about specific types of ionic liquids and their properties. Its authors aim to deliver a better understanding of the subject and, through that understanding, a contribution of the new chemistry and applications which the field has already generated.

Ionic Transport Processes

Ionic Transport Processes

$125

Modelling of heterogeneous processes, such as electrochemical reactions, extraction or ion-exchange, usually requires solving the transport problem associated to the process. Since the processes at the phase boundary are described by scalar quantities and transport quantities are vectors or tensors, coupling of them can take place only via conservation of mass, charge or momentum. In this book, transport of ionic species is addressed in a versatile manner, emphasizing the mutualcoupling of fluxes in particular. Treatment is based on the formalism of irreversible thermodynamics, i.e. on linear (ionic) phenomenological equations, from which the most frequently used Nernst-Planck equation is derived. Limitations and assumptions made are thoroughly discussed. The Nernst-Planck equation is applied to selected problems at the electrodes and in membranes. Mathematical derivations are presented in detail so that the reader can learn the methodology of solving transport problems. Each chapter contains a large number of exercises, some of them more demanding than others.
