Bentonite Kaolin and Selected Clay Minerals

Bentonite Kaolin and Selected Clay Minerals

$64.8

This book examines the health effects of exposure to bentonite kaolin and selected clay minerals. Despite the ubiquitous exposure of the general population to low concentrations of montmorillonite and kaolinite the main components of bentonite and kaolin respectively and other clay minerals no data are available on its effects. Long-term occupational exposure to bentonite dust may cause structural and functional damage to the lungs but currently available data do not conclusively establish a dose-response or even a cause-and-effect relationship..Long-term exposure to kaolin causes radiologically diagnosed pneumoconiosis but clear-cut deterioration of respiratory function and related symptoms occur only in cases with prominent radiological findings. In this respect the composition of the non-kaolinite constituents of the clay is important. Bentonite kaolin and other clays often contain quartz exposure to which is causally related to silicosis and lung cancer as well as to statistically significant increases in the incidence of or mortality from chronic bronchitis and pulmonary emphysema. The extensive use of bentonite or kaolin in cosmetics has not been found to produce local or systemic adverse effects. Tests have also revealed that bentonite and kaolin have low toxicity to a wide variety of aquatic species. The biological effects of clay minerals result not only from their composition but also their particle size. In this respect the decreasing rank order of quartz kaolinite and montmorillonite to damage lung tissue is consistent with their known relative active surface areas and surface chemistries.

Detoxification Description: When a volcano erupts, there is often a fine steam or mist released which contains a substance known as volcanic ash. Bentonite is a volcanic ash. As it contains many minerals (24 to 33), it serves to mineralize the soil. Bentonite clay can be mined from veins which are two to three feet wide and deep, but many yards long. Natives on every continent have used volcanic ash for centuries both internally and externally. The value of montmorillonite (the active ingredient in bentonite) lies in its ability to adsorb (not absorb) many times its own weight and volume in an aqueous medium. It has a predominantly negative charge that is capable of attracting many kinds of positively charged particles. Its negative charge enables it to pick up positively charged, toxic material from the alimentary canal to be expelled in the feces. The adsorption is a rapid process and can quickly neutralize allergens before they attach themselves to blood cells, thus preventing allergic reaction. There is no evidence that bentonite has any chemical action on the body. Its power is purely physical. Studies have also found that the montmorillonite in the Detoxificant removes bacteria and thus can help relieve symptoms of diarrhea, abdominal cramps, malaise, headaches and nausea. Other Ingredients: Colloidal Bentonite (U.S.P. GRADE) containing the activeconstituent montmorillonite super-refined with demineralized water as a vehicle.

Bentonite Functionalised with 2-(3-(2-aminoethylthio)propylthio)ethanamine (AEPE) for the Removal of Hg(II) from Wastewaters

Bentonite Functionalised with 2-(3-(2-aminoethylthio)propylthio)ethanamine (AEPE) for the Removal of Hg(II) from Wastewaters

In this study, natural bentonite clay was first purified and then functionalised with the chelating ligand 2-(3-(2-aminoethylthio)propylthio)ethanamine (AEPE) to improve the adsorption capacity and selectivity towards Hg(II) ions. The surface modification was characterised with the help of powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), BET isotherm to determine the specific surface area while the thermal stability of the samples was studied using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). FT-IR and TGA demonstrated the presence of the chelating ligand on the modified clay. XRD pattern indicated that the chelating agent AEPE was only grafted onto the surface of the purified bentonite, whereas the interlayer distance did not change. N2 specific surface area measurement also indicated the coverage of AEPE onto the surface of purified bentonite. Adsorption of Hg(II) ions from aqueous solutions as a function of pH, contact time, initial concentration, ionic strength, interfering ions and adsorbent dose was studied. The adsorption process followed a pseudo-second order kinetics and monolayer adsorption. The adsorption of Hg(II) ions increased with increasing pH and reached a plateau value in the pH range of 4.0-8.0. The removal of Hg(II) was found to be higher than 99% at an initial concentration of 20 mg/L using adsorbent dose of 0.01 g. The presence of NaNO3 as background electrolytes at concentration ranging from 0.01 to 2.0 M decreased the adsorption of Hg(II) ions. Furthermore, the adsorption capacity increased with increasing adsorbent dose. Sorption data analysis was carried out using Langmuir isotherm for the uptake of Hg(II) ions at a concentration range of 20-400 mg/L. The adsorption process was found to be favourable as the separation parameter is less than unity (RL

This report was created for strategic planners, international executives and import/export managers who are concerned with the market for natural sands. With the globalization of this market, managers can no longer be contented with a local view. Nor can managers be contented with out-of-date statistics that appear several years after the fact. I have developed a methodology, based on macroeconomic and trade models, to estimate the market for natural sands for those countries serving the world market via exports or supplying from various countries via imports. I do so for the current year based on a variety of key historical indicators and econometric models.
