Besides changing your dietary habits, other things that will help reduce and eliminate hemorrhoid problems include weight loss and exercise. If you’re overweight or obese, that excess body weight puts strain on your anal muscles, and this strain can cause the vein swelling and inflammation. Losing as little as ten pounds can make a big difference for most hemorrhoid sufferers.

Exercise is another method which helps relieve constipation that most people don’t know of. By exercising your body, you also exercise the colon, and this in turn can help move waste through your system more efficiently. Simply walking for about 30 minutes several times each week, you can often relieve chronic constipation problems.

If your hemorrhoids are caused by sitting or standing all day, the primary remedy you’ll need is movement. Try changing your position every hour or so, and if possible: Stand or sit for a few moments. If you usually sit at a desk all day for instance, standing up and walking around for a few moments each hour will help relieve the pressure that causes the hemorrhoids, and stimulate circulation to your anal areas.

While taking steps to prevent or relieve hemorrhoids, you can also use a variety of home and herbal remedies to help deal with the immediate symptoms. If you suffer from external hemorrhoids particularly, you may experience itching, burning, pain, and tenderness. For some people it is difficult to sit still because no position feels good, or because they’re experiencing severe itching.

A simple herb called Witch Hazel gives quick soothing relief to the common symptoms experienced with external hemorrhoids. Witch hazel usually relieves itching and burning, and can help shrink the hemorrhoids too.

Many over the counter creams and ointments have a bit of witch hazel in them, but using the pure herb gives the best results.

Mixing either white willow or white oak bark with aloe vera juice works wonderfully as well. This combination relieves the pain, burning and itching sensations, plus shrinks the hemorrhoids quickly. Often using this combination just once can keep the problems at bay for weeks.

There are also several herbs which can be used as stool softeners and laxatives. These tend to be much more gentle on your system than over the counter medications are, and they’re not habit forming.

Slippery Elm is one herb which will help normalize the stools, and is quite useful for both diarhea or constipation problems. And Cascara Sagrada is an herbal laxative which works well at helping the bowels move when you’re constipated.

Most people who suffer from hemorrhoids don’t go to the doctor for treatment, and the problems often resolve on their own. Chronic hemorrhoids can be probelmatic though, and should be treated with natural approaches. There are some surgical approaches that are sometimes used for treatment, but usually the natural approaches work fine by themselves and are much less invasive.

The most important natural treatment for hemorrhoids – internal or external – is making changes to your diet. If your hemorrhoids appear to be caused by constipation and straining when trying to have a bowel movement, the primary change you’ll need to make is to increase the amount of fiber you’re getting each day.

Getting more fiber will help your bowels move more regularly, which will in turn prevent straining and stool hardening. Additional fiber can be gotten by adding fiber rich foods or supplements. Foods are the best option, because foods high in fiber often also contain higher amounts of vitamins and minerals essential for our body’s health.

Excellent sources of fiber include dark green leafy vegetables such as broccoli, spinach and asparagus. Leafy green lettuce such as romaine are also excellent sources of fiber, as is any whole grain foods.

Changing from a cold cereal breakfast to oatmeal in the morning is a simple step towards adding more fiber. If you’re attached to cold cereals though, you can easily find cereals made with whole grains, and these will add fiber to your diet too.

At lunchtime or for snacks, you can add salads and raw vegetables. Alternatively, just adding some vegetables to your sandwiches can make a difference too. Don’t forget to use whole grain breads for sandwiches though.

Dinner time is also to add more fiber too. Again, it’s just a matter of adding fruits or vegetables to your plate, and having a side salad regularly.

Water is another very important element needed to help keep your bowels moving and prevent hemorrhoids too. Drinking at least 8-10 large glasses of straight water each day makes a huge difference in keeping your stools soft. When your stools are soft and pliable, they are able to move through your colon, rectum and anus easier, without causing damage.

Additional water can be added to your diet with fruits as well, because most fruits contain water naturally as part of their general makeup. Fruit juices help relieve constipation too, but these don’t provide the natural fiber that whole fruits do.

Hemorrhoids are also known as piles, and they’re simply swollen and inflammed veins in your anus and rectum. There are two types of hemorrhoids: Internal and External.

Hemorrhoids are a common problem for many American adults. In fact, many sources say at least 50% of adults have experienced hemorrhoids by the time they reach the age of 50. Hemorrhoids have many causes, some of which include pregnancy, weight gain and obesity, anal sex, and chronic constipation or diarrhea.

Many pregnant women develop hemorrhoids due to the extra weight of the fetus putting pressure on the lower rectal muscles. Childbirth itself enhances this problem, but most women’s hemorrhoids caused by pregnancy clear up after the baby is born.

People who are overweight or obese also get hemorrhoids for the same reasons though, that extra body weight adds pressure to the rectal muscles, and this can cause the veins to swell and become inflammed.

Anyone who sits and stands for very long periods of time can also develop hemorrhoids though, so changing your position frequently is one way to prevent them.

Internal hemorrhoids can’t be seen, and often people have these without knowing it. When these get bad however, they can cause blood to show in your stools, or appear in the toilet and on the paper when you wipe.

External hemorrhoids are visible to the eye, and can be touched. These tend to be protrusions gathered around the anus opening, and often they burn, itch, or cause pain.

One of the biggest causes of internal and external hemorrhoids is constipation, and the accompanying strain involved with having a bowel movement. Because of this, the most common natural and home remedies for hemorrhoids involve solving the constipation problems.

Constipation is often caused by a lack of fiber or water in the diet. Sometimes both. Fiber is not able to be used by our body in any nutritive ways, so it passes into the colon unchanged. Once there however, it works as a broom, or cleanser, to help move the waste materials through the colon and out of our body. The bulk of the fiber is what makes it so useful.

Water however, also plays an extremely important role in relieving or preventing constipation. Without enough water in our system, the waste material gets dry and hard because the colon extracts what little water there is for use in other areas of our body. When the waste material becomes dry and hard, it is very difficult for our bodies to pass easily, and it scratches, scrapes and injures our tissue as it trys to pass through.
